A wound infection may be treated in several ways. The most common treatment for uncomplicated wounds is to clean the wound and place the person on oral antibiotics. If the wound becomes complicated, intravenous medications may be needed. Some complicated wounds will need further medical intervention to remove the dead and infected tissue. This removal of tissue is called debridement.
