    A wound infection may be diagnosed by several means. By carefully evaluating the condition (color, drainage, odor, size) of the wound, your health care provider can determine if the wound is infected. In some instances, the health care provider may want to get some blood work and/or a culture of the wound to appropriate identify the bacteria in the wound.
