How will pregnancy affect my bones?
-
Riverside Women's Health answered:To grow strong bones, a baby needs a lot of calcium. The baby gets his or her calcium from what you eat (or the supplements you take). In some cases, if a pregnant woman isn't getting enough calcium, she may lose a little from her bones, making them less strong. So, pregnant women should make sure they are getting the recommended amounts of calcium and vitamin D. Talk to your doctor about how much you should be getting.

Paula Greer answered:When you are pregnant you need about 1200 mg of calcium daily. Your baby will take what it needs to build and grow from you whether or not you are getting adequate calcium in your daily intake by supplements or diet. If you are not taking enough for the baby the baby will take its calcium from your bones and teeth. This may cause you to have more dental problems and posture problems or brittle bones later in life. Assuring an adequate intake of calcium daily will help keep you and your baby healthy now and in the future.
