    You should take hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) exactly as directed by your doctor. Typically, this will be one or two times per day, usually in the morning (once daily) or with breakfast and supper (twice daily). If you take HCTZ at bedtime, your sleep may be disrupted by the need to urinate. It may be taken with or without food; however, to prevent stomach upset take it with food or milk. Do not take more or less, even if your symptoms improve or worsen.
