How should I give sugar to someone who has low blood sugar?

    If the person is conscious, able to swallow, and advises you that he or she needs sugar, give it in one of these forms:
    • Several glucose tablets or glucose paste
    • A 12-ounce serving of fruit juice, milk, or non-diet soft drink
    • Table sugar dissolved in a glass of water

    Most fruit juices and non-diet soft drinks have enough sugar to be effective.

    Diabetics also may carry glucagon, which they can self-administer to counter hypoglycemia.
