    Dr. Douglas Severance answered:
Radiofrequency ablation is successful in 90 to 95 percent of people who undergo this heart procedure. Different types of arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation and supraventricular tachycardia, may be managed by performing radiofrequency ablation. With this surgical procedure, the doctor destroys or removes bad or abnormal tissue in the heart's electrical system. Radiofrequency ablation is done using radiofrequency-charged heat through an electrode catheter that's been inserted in the heart. Radiofrequency ablation takes only 2 to 4 hours and requires just 1 to 2 days in the hospital.
