When taking ferrous sulfate with folic acid, follow your doctor’s directions. Additional guidelines include:

    • Take on an empty stomach. With stomach problems, take the pill with food. Take at least one hour before or two hours after eating.
    • Avoid antacids, dairy products, tea or coffee for two hours, before or after.
    • Store pills between 59° and 86°F. Protect from excessive heat, moisture or freezing.
    • Take with a full glass of water.
    • Don’t crush, break or open extended-release tablets or capsules.
    • Don’t lie down for 30 minutes after taking this medicine.
    • Take these supplements at the same time each day
