- Rinse your dentures before brushing to remove any loose food or debris.

- When brushing, clean your mouth thoroughly—including your gums, cheeks, roof of your mouth and tongue to remove any plaque. This can help reduce the risk of oral irritation and bad breath.
- When you’re not wearing your dentures, put them in a safe place covered in water to keep them from warping.
- Occasionally, denture wearers may use adhesives. Adhesives come in many forms: creams, powders, pads/wafers, strips or liquids. If you use one of these products, read the instructions, and use them exactly as directed. Your dentist can recommend appropriate cleansers and adhesives; look for products with the ADA Seal of Acceptance. Products with the ADA Seal have been evaluated for safety and effectiveness.

Many denture cleaners are available over the counter. When cleaning your dentures, be sure to not drop your dentures. It is advisable to line the sink with a washcloth as you clean them. If you drop your dentures, the washcloth will cushion the fall and prevent damage to your dentures such as cracking the base or breaking a tooth. If you develop a sore in your mouth, you should see your dentist for an adjustment. Your dentures also need to be checked periodically by a dentist at least once a year.

Do not use anything abrasive on your dentures. Clean, or at least rinse, your dentures after you have eaten. Use appropriate recommended cleaning agent. Do not drop them. Clean over a sink, but place towel in sink to prevent denture breakage if they fall into sink. Keep them in secure container with water when they are not in your mouth.
Select you foods carefully; take smaller bites; avoid very hard foods.
Never ever wrap your dentures in a tissue, paper towel or napkin. There is a good chance that tissue, paper towel or napkin will be thrown away, along with your dentures.
Consider having a spare denture made. The "spare" may be able to be fabricated using your current denture at a very reasonable cost. This can be money well spent since problems do not necessarily occur at convenient times.
