How are prenatal and breast-feeding classes helpful during pregnancy?

Dr. Sara Wood of Intermountain Healthcare answered:There are multiple classes available to patients who are pregnant or breast-feeding. It's a personal preference if the patient wants to go through these classes. I think that the classes are very helpful in answering a variety of basic questions, and they can give patients a sense of understanding. They also give peace of mind, as they go into the process of labor and delivery or nursing. There are multiple classes available to patients who are pregnant or breast-feeding. Terrie Watkins of Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) answered:Knowledge is power! Although birth and lactation are physiologic processes that occur with or without formal classes, the information provided can be invaluable to help couples in the process. Knowing what is happening during labor, and how to cope, can make the experience a much more positive one, not as scary or painful. Similarly, being familiar with breastfeeding techniques and positions and FAQ's can help the mother through the learning curve of a new skill. There is also the added support provided by sharing with a group who are going through the same life event, definitely a beneficial option all around.
