How can I permanently overcome my negative emotions?

Sheri Van Dijk answered:Sorry to break it to you, but negative emotions are a part of life! Everyone experiences pain in their lives, it's simply something we can't escape. There are things you can do to help yourself cope with these emotions more effectively, however, the most important one being self-validation.
Validating your emotions (or self-validation) means that you accept the emotion that's there, rather than judging it. For example, look at the question you've written: "how can i permanently overcome my negative emotions?" Emotions aren't positive or negative; they're just feelings, and they all serve a purpose. Of course, some of them feel good and some are painful, but that doesn't make them good or bad. Judging your emotion as bad ends up making you feel worse.
Think about this example: Joe doesn't like to feel angry. He's been brought up to think that anger is wrong, and he shouldn't feel that way. So Joe has a disagreement with his friend and he feels angry with him. If Joe judges himself for feeling angry - e.g. "I shouldn't feel this way at my friend" - he's going to add to his emotions. He might feel guilty for feeling angry; he might feel angry at himself for feeling angry at his friend; he might feel anxious because he's judging himself for feeling angry, and so on. If, instead, Joe can simply acknowledge his anger - "I feel angry at my friend" - and not judge the feeling or himself for having the feeling, the anger might not disappear, but he doesn't increase his painful emotions.
