  1. Other illnesses don't have much of an affect on rosacea. However, rosacea can lead to a condition called rhinophyma, which causes the skin around your nose to thicken and become red. This is more common in men than women and typically requires surgery to fix. It's also worth noting that high levels of stress have been known to exacerbate rosacea in some people. Aside from that, corticosteroids, which are often prescribed for other skin conditions, can make rosacea worse as well.
