If you are dependent upon power chairs, electric beds, lifts and other powered medical devices, obtain a medical form from your power company and have your doctor fill it out, indicating your medical problem and the type of equipment you use. Then, in an emergency, the utility company will make every attempt to restore service to your location as soon as possible. They will also tag your meters so that when repairs, meter changes or routine maintenance necessitate that the power be cut off, they will notify you ahead of time so you can make back-up arrangements.

Keep in mind that if this equipment is vital, it is your responsibility to have a backup power source.
