To minimize the side effects of Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil), take the tablet at about 5 p.m. daily. Don't chew, cut or crush the tablet; swallow it whole.

Because Horizant may make you drowsy and dizzy, avoid driving or operating complex machinery until you know how the drug will affect you. Don't take other drugs that make you sleepy or that contain gabapentin. Avoiding drinking alcohol, too.

Talk to your doctor about any medications you may be taking, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs, and vitamins and other supplements. If any bothersome side effects persist, speak to your doctor about adjusting the dose.
