    About 1,970 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among menAbout 390 men will die from breast cancer

    Breast cancer is about 100 times less common among men than among women. For men, the lifetime risk of getting breast cancer is about 1 in 1,000. The number of breast cancer cases in men relative to the population has been fairly stable over the last 30 years.

    Breast cancer occurs in women because they have breast tissue. But men have breast tissue too, just much less of it. While less than 1% of breast cancers occur in men, the incidence is on the rise. So the same advice doctors give women -- investigate any changes that occur in breast tissue -- should also be extended to men.

    In general less than one percent of all breast cancers are found in men. However, these cancer may be more aggressive and should be treated immediately. Similar types of cancer found in women may include infiltrating ductal carcinoma an lobular carcinoma. Any suspicious mass or enlarging lesion should be biopsied and treated by a board certified surgeon.
