These medications aim to replace lowered levels of estrogen, while keeping the rest of the body's hormones in balance. The most recommended forms of hormonal replacement therapy medication are vaginal creams and lubricants. These can be applied daily or as often as necessary. HRT medication can also come in the form of vaginal rings or tablets, which can be inserted into the vagina and which secrete estrogen. A less commonly used form of HRT medication is an oral pill, because this incorporates estrogen more directly into the blood stream, where it can interfere with the body's natural hormonal cycle.
