Medicine is not typically used to treat bladder stones. If your bladder stones are too large to pass, you may need some sort of surgical procedure to remove them. Anesthesia will probably be necessary during your procedure. If your doctor is able to remove your bladder stones via laser or ultrasound device, you have local anesthesia, but you will need general anesthesia to undergo open surgery. Following your procedure, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics to lower your risk of post-operative infection.
