How do medications treat stage 2 kidney cancer?

Treatment for stage 2 kidney cancer doesn't often involve medications as a primary factor. Because the cancer hasn't spread past the kidneys in stage 2, the simplest and most effective treatment is often surgical removal of the tumor or of the entire kidney. If surgery isn't possible for some reason, or if the cancer comes back after surgery, doctors may use medication in the form of biological therapy or targeted therapy. In biological therapy, doctors give the patient synthetic versions of certain substances found naturally in the body. These drugs, most commonly interferon and interleukin-2, encourage the immune system to destroy cancer. In targeted therapy, drugs such as sorafenib and temsirolimus are used to block the signals that tell cancer cells to grow.
