Medication for prostate disorders seems to affect ejaculation in two ways. One is the direct effect on the smooth muscles of the prostate. Studies have shown that during ejaculation, the prostate is contracting, which helps propel the semen out. The bladder neck participates significantly, too. In addition, the seminal vesicles have a good amount of smooth muscle that contracts during ejaculation. Depending on the type of alpha blocker used, the effect on the seminal vesicles could be less significant -- relaxing the smooth muscles changes the action of tissues during ejaculation.

Patients complain differently on the effects of medication for prostate disorders on ejaculation. Some complain that they have no ejaculate whatsoever, while some say that the volume of ejaculate has diminished significantly. Others report that the quality of their orgasm is different; it's not as satisfactory as before. So it varies from patient to patient. But the most common side effect is lack of ejaculate.
