Stress management is an important part of treatment for acne. It helps to anticipate situations that are stressful to you and to try to work through them as best as you can in order to minimize the effect of the stress on your body and mind. This not only helps to keep your skin clear but also helps in every part of your life.

I am a big fan of relaxation techniques. I find that they are very helpful in clearing the mind and controlling stress. A simple technique is one in which you slowly take in a deep breath, hold it for 4 seconds, and then slowly breathe out. As you slowly exhale, feel your entire body relax and the positive energy return to your body. Obviously, you should not do this while driving or in other situations that require your full attention, but it can be very useful to take a few seconds before a big meeting or in the middle of an exam or even on a long night of studying. It is amazing to me how little we focus on the importance of breathing and the power of our minds to help guide us in the right directions.

It is also helpful to be more aggressive in your acne treatment in these circumstances. This will help minimize the severity of the acne and clear the skin more quickly.

Some people get stressed more easily than others. It is very important to try to manage the stressors in your life and to minimize them as much as possible in order to help maintain control of acne as well as for your overall well-being.
