People with spine extension problems have spines that extend very well. In fact, they extend so well that their spines are almost stuck in that position. In other words, they have a difficult time flattening or flexing the spine.

If you believe you have an extension problem, try testing this yourself: Bend forward while reaching toward the ground. At the very bottom of this movement, notice whether you have less pain or feel a comfortable or pain-relieving stretch in your lower back. If you have a mirror, look at yourself while in this position, and you will see that your lumbar spine is flat (still extended). Now stand up. Do you feel your lower back muscles working to pull you up? If you have an extension problem, this is your typical bending and straightening pattern.
