You will know if your child needs clear braces, or perhaps another type of braces, if your child's teeth have grown in crooked or crowded. Look at your child's teeth for poor spacing and observe how your child bites. If his top teeth extend over the bottom teeth when he bites, your child has an overbite. If your child's bottom teeth extend past the top teeth when he bites, he has an underbite.  Both problems need to be corrected to ensure proper alignment and prevent future problems. Children who suck their thumbs often require braces as well.

The best way to know if you need braces is to have a consultation with an orthodontic specialist (an orthodontist). During your initial exam he will examine your face, teeth, supporting structures, and jaw. He will then use all of the findings to explain what is good and what could be improved. He will also explain treatment options like metal braces, clear braces, inside braces, and aligners. Most orthodontists do not charge for this initial evaluation, so call today!
