    Many people who have pityriasis rosea don't need treatment. The itchy red rash that characterizes this condition disappears on its own, usually within eight weeks. For some people a doctor may prescribe topical medications to stop the itch. Avoiding hot showers and baths, by using lukewarm water, for example, can also prevent the rash from worsening and may even help it clear up.
