    Dexmethylphenidate (Focalin, Focalin XR) comes in immediate release tablets taken by mouth usually twice a day and extended release capsules taken by mouth only once a day. Even though you don't need to take it with food, it will work faster if it is taken with food. The extended-release capsules should not be cut, chewed or crushed.
