  1. To diagnose delirium tremens, the doctor will complete a physical examination and may interview those who know the person who is suffering. Because of the seriousness of delirium tremens, the doctor will check for blood alcohol levels and may perform an electrocardiogram (ECG), an electroencephalogram (EEG), or a computed tomography (CT) to rule out other serious illness or injury. Liver function tests and blood tests to may also be conducted to assess the extent of damage to vital organs.
