Trochanter bursitis is usually caused by the band of facia called the Iliotibial (IT) band becoming tight. During movement such as walking the band constantly rubs up against the bursar that is on the trochanter of the femur. As a result, the bursar becomes inflammed and is tender upon palpation.  Stretching the IT band will help prevent a recurrence of trochanter bursitis.

To Stretch the IT Band while standing cross the opposite leg over the leg that has the bursitis on it.  Use a wall or a door to lean on. put your hand of the side of the leg with the bursitis on the wall. Lean toward the wall until you feel a mild stretch of the IT band. Hold the stretch for approximately 30-40 seconds. Repeat for an additional 2 times.
