Dr. De Vizio of Colgate answered:
To perform indirect dental bonding, your dentist will take a mold of your damaged tooth. He or she will then send this mold to a lab. The lab will create a filling or inlay (a type of large filling) from the mold using a substance called composite resin. The filling or inlay is shipped back to the dentist. At a second office visit, your dentist will bond the filling or inlay to your damaged tooth using a special type of cement.
