Dentures can replace your missing teeth and your smile. In many cases, dentures can look very natural and unnoticeable. Replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health. Without support from the denture, facial muscles sag, making a person look older. You’ll be able to eat and speak—things that people often take for granted until their natural teeth are lost.

Immediate dentures can be inserted as soon as the natural teeth are removed, and they do not require the patient to be without teeth.

Yes, because you are essentially starting from scratch. You should communicate with your dentist the color, shape and size of your teeth before they are made. In some cases, you may want to bring in an old picture of yourself when you had teeth or the smile of someone you admire. The dentist or lab technician may be able to match the teeth, but don't expect miracles, your dentist can only do his or her best to give you the look you want.

Immediate dentures are usually made when teeth extractions are performed and you are left with no remaining teeth. Unlike standard dentures where a try in of the denture setup is done to show you how the dentures will look prior to completion, immediate dentures do not have a try in stage (preview) as they are made prior to the teeth being extracted.

There is some guess work done with immediate dentures in terms of the cosmetics and may not be as cosmetically pleasing as dentures made where there are no remaining teeth.

After the tissues have healed a standard set of dentures can be made to be customized for the individual patient.

    Dr. Saul Miller answered:

Usually when you decide to have dentures or immediate dentures, it is not because your teeth look amazing. When an immediate denture is indicated it is usually because the teeth cannot be fixed, have advanced gums disease, or extensive treatment is necessary that you have chosen not to do. Therefore, the appearance of the teeth of immediate dentures are often a great improvement over the diseased teeth that are removed.

In order to obtain the most satisfactory appearance, the desired esthetics, including size, shape and color of the teeth, should be discussed and evaluated by both you and the dentist.
