Almost anything can be poisonous if it is used the wrong way, in the wrong amount, or by the wrong person. Taking the wrong amount of medicine, or someone else's medicine, accidentally eating dishwasher soap, mixing cleansers, or drinking too much alcohol can lead to poisoning. Most home products have warnings about their contents and what to do if accidentally ingested or splashed into the eyes. Many of these warnings are in the form of pictures for those who have difficulty reading. Calling a local Poison Control Center is one of the quickest and safest ways to evaluate a home product, since they have a list of all products sold in the U.S. If you think a home product is poisonous and has been ingested or splashed into the eyes or on the skin, call your local poison control center immediately at 800-222-1222.
