The impulse starts in the right atrium and then is carried through the heart chambers to the right and left ventricles. When this happens, a heartbeat or pulse occurs. There is a one-to-one relationship between the beating of the atrium and the beating of the ventricles. Usually, the heart beats 60 to 80 times a minute.
