H1N1 flu is passed from one person to another the same way that seasonal flu is passed to others. When a person coughs or sneezes, teeny droplets that contain the virus travel through the air where they can be inhaled or land on the mouths or noses of people who are nearby. The droplets can also land on a surface such as a telephone or a table. When the person touches these objects and then touches her mouth or nose, she can become infected.

H1N1 flu is able to spread easily from one person to another. Flu viruses are spread mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing by people with influenza.  People also can get the flu by touching something with the flu germ on it and then touching their mouth or nose.  Symptoms usually start one to three days after a person has been exposed.
