    American Dental Association answered:
Visit your dentist regularly for an oral cancer screening to help detect oral cancer in its earliest stages. Screening for early changes in your mouth and on your tongue, as well as your face and neck, can help detect cancer at a stage when it can be more successfully treated. Your dentist will  examine your face, neck and mouth for lumps, red or white patches, or recurring sore areas.
