    Dr. Mehmet Oz answered:
A dermatologist will diagnose a congenital mole by examining a patient's skin. Congenital moles are skin growths that are present at birth. They may be tan or brown, like common moles, or they may have a blue-gray color, like a bruise. Congenital moles are usually small in size, but some -- known as giant congenital nevi -- can grow to eight inches in diameter or larger. Usually, no additional tests are needed to diagnose a congenital mole.
