A composite resin dental filling should last and be effective for at least five years. While they are relatively strong, composite resin fillings sometimes shrink because they’re made with an acrylic-type material that may not stand up to the pressure of chewing as well as silver, or amalgam, fillings. Composite resin dental fillings also may not last as long as amalgam fillings for larger cavities.
