How can I communicate with someone who has hearing loss?

    There are several things that you can do to help put a hearing-impaired person at ease and make communication as easy as possible:
    • Speak in a normal tone of voice. Shouting distorts the sound of the voice.
    • Talk slowly and clearly.
    • Always face the person as you speak and position yourself no more than three to six feet away so that the person can read your lips for cues.
    • If you think, based on the person's facial expressions, that he or she hasn't understood you, rephrase what you have just said.
    • Finally, ask the person what you can do to make conversations easier
