    Dr. Patrick Maguire answered:
In the United States, roughly 71,000 cases of bladder cancer are diagnosed and 14,000 patients die of the disease each year. It's much more commonly diagnosed in men (about 53,000 cases per year) than in women (18,000 cases per year). The median age at diagnosis is 73 years old, and it's rarely seen in patients younger than 35. Lifetime risk of developing bladder cancer is approximately 2.4%, or one in 40 people.
