In response to how common is Alzheimer's and dementia, the Alzheimer's Association reports that one out of eight people at the age of 65 will get Alzheimer's, the most common form of dementia. Considering the projection that in the United States, by 2030, one out of five people will be aged 65 or older, that adds up to a large number of people.

The good news is that research in Alzheimer's is progressing, and hopefully, in the next decade, approaches to treatment will be successful in delaying onset of this disease.

Overall dementia accounts for considerably higher figures since vascular dementia as a result of stroke, plus other forms of dementia, are not included in these statistics.
