  1. For the most part, a comminuted fracture will affect children and adults in much the same way. The severity of the fracture and course of treatment will depend on the area where the fracture occurred and the extent of the damage. Parents with small children should keep in mind that their child may not be able to tell them if they have a fracture; however, they will likely not want to move the affected area. In addition, because children's bones are continuing to grow, a fracture could affect how the bone grows in the future.
