  1. Night terrors may have a genetic cause, so if you had them, your child is at greater risk. If your child is having night terrors, do not wake them. Instead, speak softly and gently guide them back to bed. Understand that although they may be scary to you, night terrors are not generally harmful, and your child will likely outgrow them. Also, your child will probably not remember anything from the episode. Be sure to make the house safe for sleepwalking by removing hazards like cords. Also, prohibit sleeping in bunk beds.
