How can I get my teenage son up in time for school?
-
Kirsten Benford of Honor Society of Nursing (STTI) answered:Getting your son up in the mornings is directly related to bed time habits and his quality of sleep. Check to make sure your teen is not staying up late hours watching television, playing gaming systems or making phone calls/texting. Establishing a pattern of not engaging in stimulating activities 2 hours before bed time will help with improving sleep quality and also help him feel more rested in the morning. He should also avoid caffeinated beverages after dinner time. Weekend bed time should not be more than 2 hours later than week day bed time. Most teens need 8 hours of sleep to feel well rested. If these behavioral measures don't help him with getting up on time, make an appointment with your health care provider to check for underlying medical causes.
