Besides their more common uses, think of bananas when you want to thicken and add creaminess and flavor to pureed dressings and dips. They will also contribute moisture and sweetness to baked goods.

Try adding bananas to cereals or oatmeal for breakfast to get some natural sweetness mixed with your whole grains.

Add a banana with some milk/yogurt and puree for a thick, delicious smoothie.

Banana and peanut butter sandwiches are divine. Use a high-fiber bread (containing 5 grams of fiber or more per slice) + 1-2 Tbsp. of peanut butter + 1 small banana (sliced) for a scrumptious sandwich.

A favorite: applesauce-banana bread. The bananas* and applesauce will add thickness and moisture and make a dense bread/muffin.

*This is a great way to use ripe bananas: throw them in the freezer until you want to make some bread.

To add more bananas to your diet, try the following:
    1. Mix mashed ripe banana with peanut or almond butter for a sandwich or toast.
    2. Mix mashed ripe banana with plain yogurt and a little peanut butter and use as a dip for apple slices.
    3. Banana’s creamy texture makes for a delicious smoothie.  Mix in a blender:  1 banana, about ½ cup milk, ¼ tsp vanilla and a couple of ice cubes.
    4. Divide a ripe banana into a few pieces and freeze. This prevents wasting over-ripe bananas and when frozen, bananas have a deliciously creamy texture. Have a piece when craving ice cream for a nutritious alternative.
