Here are some breakfast fruit tips:

    1. Buy plain, low-fat cottage cheese and add your fruit of choice.

    2. When berries are out of season, buy them frozen. To thaw them fast, put one serving in the microwave for two or three minutes, then stir them into plain low-fat yogurt.

    3. To add natural sweetness to your morning oatmeal, slice a pear, apple, or banana into it and then cook it.

    4. Top high-fiber breakfast cereal with a cup of berries instead of added sugar.

    5. For a quick, hearty on-the-run breakfast, make a peanut butter and banana sandwich.

Fruit can be served as a side dish to your breakfast by using fresh, canned, dried or juiced fruits. The natural sweetness of fruit adds a sweet flavor to your bowl of breakfast cereal (dry cereal or hot cereal) or to a plain or vanilla flavored yogurt. For a quick “on the go” breakfast, place whole grain cereal, dried fruit (raisins, cranberries or apricots), and nuts in a small bag to make a trail mix. Fruit can also be used to make a variety of smoothies combined with low fat milk.
