Here are some examples of calories in a serving of nuts, beans and grains: A handful of nuts (1-ounce serving), 160 to 200 calories; 1 cup cooked brown rice, 200; 1 cup chickpeas, 269; 1 cup kidney beans, 225; 1 cup lentils, 226; half-cup oatmeal, 150. Nuts are a great source of omega-3 and fiber, but they're high in calories, so if you're counting them, limit yourself to a few handfuls a week.
