How is an Achilles tendon rupture diagnosed?
-
Dr. Christopher Hodgkins of Baptist Health South Florida answered:The Achilles tendon connects the calf muscles to the heel bone. A rupture of the tendon means the tendon has torn or separated. Your doctor will perform a physical exam and look for tenderness along the tendon. In some cases, an MRI may be called for to detect a possible tear in the tendon. X-rays can show whether the lower part of the Achilles tendon has calcified.
