Can hormone replacement therapy be used to treat all cases of hypogonadism?

Hormone replacement therapy is the most common treatment for hypogonadism, but it may not be recommended in all cases. Hormone replacement therapy involves taking hormone-based medications to replace those that aren't produced naturally in the bodies of people with hypogonadism. However, hormone replacement therapy may increase the risk for breast cancer and heart disease in some women - especially if it's used to as treatment for menopause (a naturally-occurring version of hypogonadism) or post-menopause. In those cases, doctors may not recommend hormone replacement therapy. Similarly, hormone replacement therapy may not be recommended for some men who develop hypogonadism as a result of normal aging. This is because doctors disagree over whether treatment for those individuals is necessary.
