    Patients are seen in the emergency department based on their severity of illness. This is called triage. A registered nurse assesses patient presenting to the emergency department to determine their level of care needed.

    Patients with life-threatening injuries or illness are treated first. Then patients with serious illness treated next. Minor injuries are seen last.
