National Athletic Trainers’ Association answered:Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common viral illness that usually affects infants and children. There is no specific treatment for HFMD, but a doctor may use analgesics to help control symptoms such as fever and painful sores. If the infection is severe, then other medicines may be administered.
