    Because the protective polyphenols in grapes are mostly in the skins, grapes, grape juice, or non-alcoholic red wine are excellent alternatives to red wine that pack the same cardiovascular benefits: lowering the level of oxidized cholesterol, relaxing the veins and arteries, and preventing platelets from sticking together. If you are diabetic, however, use moderation. Grapes and grape juice each have a glycemic index above 50, meaning they are high in sugar.
