Why shouldn't I get an ultrasound done outside medical settings?

Maybe you've seen ultrasounds offered at the mall and pitched as an opportunity to frame your baby's first pictures. Resist the temptation. Amateurs are doing them, and they often have the settings way too high - an unnecessary and dangerous risk for your child. The FDA has issued a warning about these, as the energy used might permanently harm the baby's hearing and may even cause burns (with subsequent permanent scars).
