As a Registered Dietitian with RA, I have scoured the research literature in an attempt to find which foods are best to eat when you have RA. Unfortunately there is not a simple answer or a specific arthritis diet, despite what you might hear or find on the Internet. Based on the available research the best diet plan for people with RA is likely the Mediterranean diet. A Mediterranean diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, olive oil and fatty fish. This diet is packed with inflammation fighting phytochemicals and fatty acids. It can also help lower your risk for heart disease, a common problem many people with RA face. When you have RA, it is important not to just focus on eating to decrease RA symptoms, but also to choose a healthy eating pattern for overall health and well being.
