A registered dietitian can help people that need to gain weight. The most important thing is to gain weight slowly, and with the right foods. It's important to avoid saturated fats, trans fats, and added sugars while you are trying to gain weight because these will negatively impact health. You can find a registered dietitian in your area at www.eatright.org.

Any dietician should and has the ability to assist you in gaining weight. They will assess you as an individual, your metabolic rate, your needs and goals and determine a healthy way for you to meet those goals whether they be to gain or lose weight.

There are many places to find a registered dietitian (RD). Many RDs are working in the outpatient department of hospitals, in clinics, and often times, in private practice. Check with your insurance company to see if your policy covers nutrition counseling by an RD as many do. They will also have a list of RD for you to visit.

Another way to find an RD is to visit the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) website at: www.eatright.org. Then click on "Find an RD."
